Some things are just better together, but it’s only recently come to our attention that we’ve been missing out on maybe the most epic pairing of all time: popcorn & coffee. It turns out that this duo has been a thing for a super long time. It’s even a ceremonial tradition in Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee and, apparently, great ideas.

Here are a few of our favorite brews from local Chicago roasters served up with the perfect popcorn sidecar.

Dark Matter’s Unicorn Blood + It’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Time
We all know coffee is magic, but Unicorn Blood magics even harder. With notes of peanut butter and chocolate, it’s almost too obvious to pair it with It’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Time. But we did it anyway, and you’ll be glad we did.

Gaslight’s Cajamarca + In a Caramel Nutshell
This Peruvian coffee boasts notes of cranberry, raisin, nougat, and walnut. So basically, a squirrel’s fantasy blend. Serve up a steaming cup with a side of In a Caramel Nutshell and you’ve basically got yourself a deconstructed protein bar.

Groundswell’s Fazenda Vale de Lua Brazil Espresso + Little Kettle That Could
With notes of toasted cherry, old-fashioned butterscotch, and chocolate, this sweet roast deserves a comparable sidekick sidecar, so go ahead and give the Little Kettle That Could a spin!

La Colombe’s Sumatra Kerinci Honey + Caramel-Diem
This lush roast gives off notes of gogi berry, brown sugar, and star anise, which sounds hella cozy. We recommend enjoying this brew from inside a blanket fort with a big bag of Caramel-Diem stuffed inside your snuggy.

Passion House’s PH Blend + Fruity Fruity Bang Bang
Cherry pie, lemon curd, shortbread, and candied oranges give this little bean a big bang. Pair it with the colorful kernels of Fruity Fruity Bang Bang to compliment those technicolor dream notes.

Halfwit’s Kula Peaberry + Paint It Milk Chocolate
This blend hits all the right notes of fig, molasses, and dark chocolate, so pair it with another artsy ally — Paint It Milk Chocolate. Together, these two are a gastro masterpiece.
