Over the last few weeks, several members of the Double Good Family volunteered at Surfers Healing camps along the east coast. They returned to the factory straight up gushing about their experience to anyone who would listen. And we all listened, because that’s what families do. Their stories were so good, though, that we thought we’d share them with you, too.
Eboné is a member of Double Good’s Customer Care Team, and this is her story.
Besides feeling blessed and grateful to be a part of the Surfer’s Healing experience, I’ve been at a loss for words to explain exactly how I felt. It was a mix of joy, awe, and sentiment. Finally, I concluded that Surfer’s Healing was D.O.P.E. While the 90’s slang definition of fresh and cool does apply, the acronym D.O.P.E., in reference to the Double Good Core Values, is the perfect description:
Deliver Excellence
Own It
People Matter
Enjoy the Ride
Recently, I’ve been challenged to appreciate our core values in a new way. My appreciation has therefore allowed me to view those values as pieces that align with everyday life. The alignment between Double Good and Surfer’s Healing is an unparalleled match; it paints a perfect picture for ‘one perfect day.’
During my time at the Folly Beach camp, I came into contact with such an amazing group of volunteers who were ready to Deliver Excellence. This was present in every person on the beach, from the surfers to the locals, who donated their time and even their homes. Seeing the surfers ‘dare to care’ with patience as they took each kid out into the water, it allowed the kids to ‘persist with passion’ and Own It. Having the opportunity to connect with parents of the children surfing solidified how much People Matter. I was able to hear their stories and feel their excitement. There was genuine love and appreciation in the beautiful South Carolina air. Throughout the whole journey, it was evident that everyone involved was able to Enjoy the Ride. As the kids returned to shore, they were awarded medals and trophies. It was a day of celebration.
So when I say Surfer’s Healing was D.O.P.E., that’s the only way I can explain it. Being able to see the magic of Surfer’s Healing, in person, has no comparison. I hope that the opportunity presents itself to everyone who is willing to have their hearts opened and perspectives changed. The event has made me truly proud to be one of the “Popcorn People.” What we do really does matter.
